A message from Coach Ty

Hi I am Ty and the mother of four Robalos swimmers as well as "Coach Ty". I have been coaching the Robalos for the last three years with Coach Steve. In 2010 I am the team's head coach. I look forward to working with each of our assistant coaches and swimmers in helping them to grow, improve as swimmers, and compete as part of our Robalos swim team. Please join me in making 2010 a fantastic experience.

In addition to coaching swimming, I have coached youth soccer, basketball, and softball. I am a dedicated athlete and love pushing my body in a variety of sports and physical endeavors. Educationally and professionally I am trained in child development. I have been working with children for almost 30 years.

If you have questions I would be delighted to talk to you between workouts on the pool deck or you can call me 613-2661.

Meet the Assistant Coaches!

More coming soon!... If you have interest in being an assistant coach please speak with Coach Ty.

Tyler asked, “What is there to highlight?” Many of the Robalos’ parents and swimmers know Tyler from the multiple years (11 to be exact) he has been with the Robalos and we have seen him grow up. However, with time the ideas started flowing. First off, just the basics; “I’m 17 right now and will be a senior at Placer High this next school year. I have worked or ARD for the past year as a lifeguard and swim instructor for summer lessons. Last year, I held the title of assistant coach but only actually worked when another coach was missing – which was spatial. This year I am excited to hold the title once again and really be a part of everything; practices, meets, scratch sessions, and everything else. It will surely be a learning experience for me nad I hope to grow as a coach through this summer. As the older kids can attest, I like to have fun and be a little sarcastic/eccentric. I believe that kids will learn better with some laughs rather than being demandingly screamed at by a coach. This however, puts responsibility on the kids as well. I hold the feeling that if I give them something; they have to give me something. Thus, if I have fun at practices and meets I expect them to give me their hard work. I also which that the kids will approach me if needed. I am very easy to approach and hope that if they have a question or me, they get my attention (Tyler, Coach, or Hey You! Usually does the trick).

Parents. This last part goes for you too. I openly welcome questions, comments, or criticisms that you may have. Like I said, this year is a learning period for me as well. Please approach me if you need something. I will try to have an answer. The only thing I ask is that you approach me nicely. I too will work better with someone who approaches me kindly rather than someone who runs up to me screaming in my face. The screaming can, and will, go both ways if that happens (but it won’t, right?). I have already had multiple parents open up communication lines with me and I appreciate that along with their suggestions and criticisms; we are off to a great start! If I had a last statement to make it would be that I am a pretty laid-back individual. I absolutely love coming to work each day to be with your kids – they put a smile on my face and I am thankful for that opportunity. I want your kids to have a fun summer and I want to have a fun summer job/summer as well. So far this is a superb start!”

Coaching Philosophy and Goals

The Robalos Swim Team has a proud and colorful history. We as coaches take our job very seriously in our effort to create a positive environment that enables each swimmer to develop their individual skills as a team member.

In this team sport format we promote sportsmanship, camaraderie and the skill-building self-esteem support needed for each swimmer to cultivate respect for themselves and their fellow teammates.

Team coaches are responsible for the development of our swimmers as well as the planning of competitive strategy. This includes the assignment of swimmers at particular practice sessions and the selection of events at swim meets for the individual swimmers.

All swimmers are eligible to be entered in 4 events at swim meets, but coaches will only do so if all swimmers in that age group have been entered in 3 events first.

To enhance the enjoyment of all team members, the Auburn Robalos adheres to a zero tolerance philosophy. Inappropriate behavior is unacceptable and will be dealt with according to a graduated process of discipline.
